Even saying that most of us use WhatsApp frequently is an understatement. Despite being the most popular messaging programme, the Facebook-owned instant messenger isn’t getting complacent. Every now and again, WhatsApp adds new features to keep up with the competition and prevent it from having a chance to catch up. There are many new hidden features and techniques waiting to be uncovered because new features are periodically added. We’ve already provided a number of fantastic WhatsApp tips and tricks, but if you’re one of those individuals who likes to stay up to speed with new WhatsApp tricks, here are 8 awesome new WhatsApp tips for both Android and iPhone:
1. Change font in messages
Recently, WhatsApp made it possible to send text messages using an alternative typeface called FixedSys. The font is quite old and was initially used in Windows’ initial release in 1995. You may highlight text in your WhatsApp chats by using the typeface. If you’re unaware, WhatsApp does not provide instructions on how to change typefaces. But don’t worry; we’ve got you covered.
Add three'(grave accent) characters at the beginning and end of a sentence or word to modify the typeface of a message.
The grave accent character can be found on iPhones by pressing and holding the apostrophe, while the Android keyboard has it on the second page of symbols. You may find the character immediately below the Esc key on Windows and Mac.
2. Use multiple WhatsApp accounts
Unfortunately, WhatsApp only allows you to use a single WhatsApp account natively. We understand if you want to have separate WhatsApp accounts for professional and personal use. However, a third-party Android programme called Parallel Space allows you to use two WhatsApp accounts on the same device. Simply use the Clone applications feature after installing Parallel Space to run two instances of WhatsApp. For additional information, please see our in-depth examination of the app.
The All-in-one Messenger Chrome software allows you to use numerous WhatsApp accounts on your computer. The programme also enables you to utilise multiple messengers simultaneously. You should read our in-depth article on the Chrome app to learn more.
3. Read messages without sending read receipts (iPhone)
For some people, the read receipts option is a godsend, but not for others. Therefore, if you’ve always desired to read messages without sending read receipts, we won’t hold it against you. If you use an Android device, you can enlarge the notifications in the notification centre to read the messages, but if you use an iPhone, we have a much better tip for you. Simply use 3D Touch to see a preview of a message you receive on WhatsApp when using an iPhone. This allows you to read the message without the sender receiving a read receipt. Pretty basic, yes?
4. Embed a previous text in your reply
Most likely, you are already aware of this awesome new WhatsApp function, but if not, we are here to fill you in. A prior text can now be embedded in a WhatsApp reply. Given that it can occasionally be difficult to tell who someone is referring to in group chats, this should be especially helpful in those settings. Simply hold down on the message you wish to quote while selecting the Reply option to use it. The quoted text should appear alongside a response when you compose your response and submit it.
5. Block notification previews
WhatsApp notification previews in the notification centre or on the lockscreen can be inconvenient given that anyone using your phone can readily see your private communications. On aniPhone, you can easily stop notification previews by going toWhatsApp Settings->Notificationsandturning off Show Preview.
WhatsApp does not include the ability to hide previews on Android but you can use the OS built-in notifications manager to hide WhatsApp s notifications. You can head over toAndroid Settings->Apps->WhatsApp->Notificationsand selectBlock All. Keep in mind though that this will result in no notifications from WhatsApp on your Android smartphone.
6. Share media to multiple contacts
In WhatsApp s current iteration, when you try and share something to the messenger from an external source, you can only send it to a single contact or group. Well, that s about to change, as the new WhatsApp beta lets youshare media or any other content to multiple groups or contacts. All you need to do is, hit the share button anywhere and select WhatsApp. Then, you will be able to select multiple contacts or groups to share stuff. Since this feature is part of the beta, we can expect it to arrive on the stable WhatsApp version soon.
7. Find who you talk to most (iPhone)
If you have been wondering about who you talk to most on WhatsApp, well, iPhone users in luck. The WhatsApp app on the iPhone packs in a hidden option to let you know who you talk to most. Just head over toWhatsApp Settings->Account->Storage Useand you will see contacts with whom you share the most messages and media. Well, now you know who your best friend is!
8. Format text
WhatsApp recently started letting you format text to bold, italics or add a strike through. Well, not entirely a trick or a hidden feature, this is something many people still don t know about.
- Bold: Add a * at the start and end of a word or sentence.
- Italics: Add an _ at the start and end of a word or sentence.
- Strikethrough: Add a ~ at the start and end of a word or sentence you want to strike through.
9. Check who has read your message in a group
If you are part of a group on WhatsApp and you ve just posted an important message, you d want to check who has read your message after a period of time. Well, thankfully, WhatsApp lets you do that. On aniPhone, all you need to do isleft swipe on the message. OnAndroid, you canpress hold on the messageand then, tap on theinfoicon. Once done, you will see who has read your message along with details on when exactly they read it.
10. Unblock yourself from someone s account
This is something we would not recommend doing but if you really need to contact someone who has blocked you, there s a way to unblock yourself from their account. It s important to note that the steps to unblock will result in youlosing all your account info including chats, backups, photos and anything else. If you are okay with that, here are the steps to unblock yourself:
- First, head over to WhatsApp Settings->Account->Delete My Account and enter your mobile number and tap on Delete My Account .
- Then, uninstall WhatsApp from your device. Once done, restart your Android smartphone or iPhone.
- When your device restarts, install WhatsApp afresh from App Store or Google Play Store, enter your details and start using WhatsApp. Your WhatsApp account will then be unblocked from all the accounts that have blocked you.
