There isn’t a better choice for VoIP services than Skype. It has many features and is constantly adding more. It’s simple to place an audio or video call, and you can even hold conferences with up to 25 people! Simply put, Skype has so many features and benefits that it is nearly hard to use them all. To help you make the most of Skype, we’ve put up a list of tips and tactics you should be aware of.

Cool Skype Tricks Everyone Should Know

    1. Backup Skype Chat History

After a certain period of time, Skype deletes the prior chat history; therefore, you must back up your chats if you want to maintain a record of them.

Open the Run command, type the command%appdata%skypehere, and then click OK to backup your Skype chat history.

The folder with your Skype ID as the name will now be accessible in a new window. You’ll discover a file with the name main. All of your Skype chat history is stored in the file database. Copy the file and store it safely somewhere, such as on your PC or an external drive.

    2. Use Skype Wi-Fi

have no access to the internet? Do paid Wi-Fi hotspots sound a little pricey to you? Utilize your Skype credit to try Skype Wi-Fi. With the help of the Skype Wi-Fi software, you may create a hotspot and use your Skype credit to access the internet. According to Skype, there are more than 2 million Wi-Fi hotspots available. You may search for the nearby supported hotspot using the app, which is available for both Android and iOS.

    3. Remove All Skype Ads

Skype advertisements occasionally upset me and interfere with my ability to communicate. All of the Skype advertisements can be manually removed from your computer. Just select Network and Internet from the Control Panel.

Click on Internet Options on the following page, and a new dialogue will appear. Click on Restricted sites under the Security tab in this window. Clicking the Site button below will make it available.

Enter this: https://apps.skype.com/ and select add on the following page.

Simply restart your computer and launch Skype to make all advertisements disappear.

    4. Skype Call Forwarding

To guarantee that you don’t miss any calls, you can set up Skype call forwarding. Calls can be forwarded to a different Skype contact, a mobile device, or a landline. Call forwarding between Skype accounts is free, but call forwarding to landlines and mobile phones uses Skype credits. Not the caller, but you, will be charged for the call. Additionally, the charges are the same as the usual rates for Skype calls to landlines and mobile phones.

Simply select Tools from the top menu, then choose Options from the list of options to configure Skype call forwarding.

Click on Calls and then on Call forwarding in the newly opened window. Call forwarding to the specified number can be configured here.

    5. Use Skype As Remote Control Security Camera

By setting your Skype account to always answer incoming calls, you may utilise it as a security camera. Two accounts are required for this; one will be used to receive calls and the other to make calls. As other people may contact and end up accessing your installed security camera, you shouldn’t utilise your personal account to receive calls.

Simply launch Skype on your personal computer and point the webcam in the direction you wish to observe. After that, configure the receiver account to answer calls automatically. For this, select Tools and then choose Options from the menu.

Select Calls from the options menu, then select Call settings. Click on Show Advanced options in the right side. To activate automatic phone answering, choose the checkbox next to Answer incoming calls automatically.

You may now keep an eye on things by making a simple call from the other account whenever you choose.

    6. Use Skype Button for Customer Support

You can also utilise Skype to give customer service if you own a small business and telephone costs seem a bit excessive. On add the Skype button to your website, simply purchase one. Customers can call you using Skype and can check if you are online or not.

    7. Record Skype Calls

Although Skype doesn’t come with a built-in call recording option, several apps can be integrated with Skype to enable this function. Free Video Call Recorder for Skype is a fantastic choice for this purpose because it is portable and very user-friendly. (Link)

    8. Get a Skype Caller ID

Setting up Skype caller ID is crucial if you wish to call landlines or mobile phones. To do this, select Skype from the top menu, and then select My Account.

Your Account will load as a web page in your usual browser. The option for Caller ID can be found here under the heading Manage Features. Simply click on it to configure your caller ID.

    9. Transfer Skype Contacts from One Account To Another

All of your contacts from the first account can be effortlessly transferred to the new account if you decide to switch. Simply select Contacts from the top menu and then click Advanced from the drop-down menu. The contacts will now be backed up when you select Backup Contacts to File from the side menu.

The procedure for restoring in the other account is the same; this time, however, choose Restore Contacts from File from the side menu.

    10. Edit Sent Messages

If there is something you overlooked, you can easily amend a message that has been delivered. Simply hit the Up Arrow key after sending a message, and the text box will show the sent message. If you make changes to the message and send it again, the original message will be replaced.

    11. Hide Typing Indicator (Pencil Mark)

Turn off the typing indicator (the moving pencil) if you don’t want other people to notice while you’re typing. In the main menu, select Tools, and then select Options.

Go ahead and click IM & SMS, then select IM Settings. To turn off this function, select Show advanced options from the right panel, uncheck the box next to Show when I am typing, and then click OK.

    12. Clear Skype Chat History

You may easily accomplish this within the Skype software if you wish to remove all of your chat history for any reason. To wipe all history, simply open the advanced options of IM Settings, as we did in the trick before (Hide Typing Indicator), and select the button labelled Clear history.

    13. Use Hidden Smileys and Emoticons

There are numerous other smileys and emoticons outside those on the list, in addition to the common ones. To utilise them, you must type their command into the chat box. On the official Skype website, you can find all the commands for both common and secret smileys and emoticons.

    14. Use Multiple Chat Windows

You can also open numerous chat windows if you want to talk to several individuals at once. Simply select Split Window View from the top menu’s View section. This divides the window in two, and when you double-click on a contact, a chat window for that contact opens.

    15. Give Custom Names to Your Contacts

You may quickly rename a contact if there are other persons with the same name in your contact list or if you simply want to give them a unique name. Simply perform a right-click on the contact’s name, select Rename from the context menu, and give the contact a new name.

    16. Send a Video Message

You have the option of sending a brief video message in addition to a conventional message. To send a video message, select it from the menu by clicking the Paper clip icon to the left of the chat window. The message can then be recorded and sent. If the initial recording is unsuccessful, you can try again.

    17. Use Skype Chat Commands

You can use a variety of custom chat commands to enhance your Skype experience and save some time. For instance, you can type/kick [Name of the person you want to remove] to kick someone out of the chat or type/golive to make a group call while in a chat.

With the exception of the device you are presently logged in from, the /remotelogoutchat command will log you out of all other devices. Type /help into the conversation to view a list of the available commands.

You may use all of these commands in your chat box by downloading them from the official Skype website.

    18. Skype Screen Sharing

The person you are currently speaking to can see your active desktop screen. If you need to give someone instructions of any kind, this may come in handy. When the call is active, all you have to do is click the Plus button, then select Share Screen from the menu to begin sharing.

    19. Skype File Sharing

In addition to calls and instant messaging, Skype also permits file sharing. You can email files including documents, films, compressed files, and images. Additionally, there are no limitations on the largest file size that can be sent using Skype.

Simply drag and drop the file into the chat window or choose the relevant file to share by clicking the button with a paper clip icon.

    20. Use Skype Hotkeys

To make using Skype services even faster, you can define Hotkeys. Click on Tools in the top menu, then select Options to activate and adjust hotkeys.

Click on Advanced in the new window that appears, then click on Hotkeys to the right of it. The right panel will now display all the possible hotkeys for you to quickly customise.
