Last month, Google released a fresh makeover for Gmail along with a number of new features, such as an offline mode, confidential mode, and smart compose. However, one of these is a function known as Nudge, which brings up old emails and prompts you to reply and contact the recipients.
The AI-powered Nudge function is available by default for users who have migrated to the updated Gmail UI and began rolling out to users earlier this week. However, it’s possible that you don’t want Gmail to look through your emails and determine whether it needs to remind you about anything in particular.
So, the following are the actions you can take to either modify or disable the nudging feature:
Customize Nudging
In two situations, Gmail will remind you of previous emails. Either you neglected to read an email in your inbox or you need to follow up on recent emails you sent. The steps you can take to adjust the experience to better meet your needs are listed below:
1. Navigate to the Nudges section under the Settings > General section by clicking on the Settings cog at the top right of your email.
2. Uncheck the box next to Suggest emails to reply to if you don’t want to see emails that you’ve missed or forgotten to reply to in your inbox.
3. However, in order to hide sent emails that haven’t heard back from the recipient, you’ll need to uncheck the Suggest emails to follow up on option.
Turn Off Nudging
Now, if you want to entirely disable the nudging feature—that is, if you don’t want Gmail to display any older emails at the top—you may uncheck both of the options present under the Nudge settings in your Gmail Settings.
Even though Gmail’s nudging tool is a very helpful addition to this well-known email service, some people find the pop-up email reminders to be annoying. Fortunately, you can now personalise the feature to best meet your needs.
