I adore iMessage’s group messaging functionality. The addition of new iMessage features in iOS 14 has made it even better, like the inline reply and the capability to tag or name people in group chats. However, the new mention feature also means that if someone mentions your name in a muted group post, you will be notified. I’ll demonstrate how to turn off the iMessage mentions notice in this article so you can fix the issue.
Disable iMessage Mentions Notification on iPhone
There are some groups that I want to keep entirely muted, even though I want to have the mentions feature set on for muted groups since it helps me receive notifications for messages that are for me without having to continually be barraged with notifications for all messages.
The only issue is that you can’t carry it out group by group. Either all groups can have mention notifications disabled, or none at all. So, before you start this setup, bear that in mind.
1. Launch the Settings application and click Messages.
2. Scroll down to the Mentions section and turn off the Notify Me option there.
There it is. Even if your name is mentioned in the group chat, you won’t get notifications for muted discussions.
Completely Mute Group Messages on iPhone and iPad
As you can see, the procedures are not too difficult. I wish Apple would let me disable mention alerts for particular organisations. I suppose we’ll have to make do with what we have until that functionality is available. I am not, at least, compelled to get mention alerts even when I don’t want to.
There are more things like this in iOS 14. Don’t forget to read our coverage of new features, including as the back tap feature, widgets, custom icons, and more, if you have already loaded the update.
