Update: All Android and iPhone users now have access to WhatsApp’s new Status feature. You don’t even need to update the app because the new functionality is sent as a server update. In between your conversations and calls, a new Status tab appears. You may view all the status changes and post your own by visiting the Status tab. It is nearly identical to Instagram Stories, which were copied from Snapchat Stories in turn. Like Snapchat stories, you can doodle, text, and even add emoji to your status updates.
Over the past few months, WhatsApp has been pushing some quite intriguing improvements. The majority of the features are exact replicas of those seen in other apps, like Snapchat. Evidently, following failed acquisition attempts, parent company Facebook is attempting to out-compete Snapchat. WhatsApp is getting ready to roll out a new feature called Status that is similar to what Snapchat offers with Stories, which Instagram also imitated with the same name. This comes after releasing image editing features that are comparable to Snapchat. So, yeah, Facebook is actively taking functionality from Snapchat.
Although the stable or beta versions of Android do not yet support this new Status feature, rooted Android devices can easily enable it. Now, follow these instructions to activate the new WhatsApp Status feature on Android:
How to get WhatsApp Status feature
Requirements:
- Rooted Android device
- WhatsApp Beta version 2.16.336 and above.
You must enrol in WhatsApp’s beta programme before you can get this feature to work on your device. To join WhatsApp’s beta testing programme, go here. You may also download it from APK Mirror.
We’ll utilise a software called WA Tweaks to activate this feature. The WA Tweaks app will inject the necessary code for us because this feature is currently unavailable to the Public beta.
I’d encourage you to first backup your WhatsApp chats and data to Google Drive before making any changes. You risk losing your data if something goes wrong as we’re going to change WhatsApp’s database on your phone. In fact, I would advise utilising Titanium Backup to backup the programme.
Once you’re finished, take the following actions:
1. Download and install the WA Tweaks APK for the most recent version.
2. When you open the app, it will first check to see if you have root access. When prompted, select grant to provide root access.
3.To make the Status feature function, we just need to turn on a few parameters. Activate the EnableNew Home UIoption first.
4. Next, tap on Extra after opening the drawer from the left. You must tap the Inject WhatsApp Status Chat button here.
You should check WhatsApp right away to determine if it worked. If it didn’t, give it another shot. With a few tries, it will function. Disable the options in WA Tweaks to return to the standard WhatsApp UI.
Quick Look at WhatsApp s Status Feature
The addition of new features to WhatsApp has been incredibly slow lately, so it’s not surprising that the new Status feature is quite problematic given that it’s not even included in the beta build. Let’s see how the new WhatsApp Status functions, though.
The user interface has changed, first. There is now a Status tab among the tabs on the home page. You’ll also notice a camera symbol next to the tab in the left corner.
The camera icon being in line with the tabs, in my opinion, looks really strange. Though it might alter once it becomes known. The Status tab is the next stop.
Your status will be listed as My Status under the Status tab. By touching on the Status icon in the top-right area, you may add a new Status. The process of creating a Status is comparable to uploading a photo, and it uses the same user interface as editing photos on WhatsApp.
You can decide with whom to share your Status once you’ve finished generating it. You have the option of sending it as a photo to particular contacts or groups, or you can choose My Status up top to share it as a Status. In the Status Recipients page, you have complete control over who can see your Status. By tapping the settings icon during the send to activity, you can change that. If the contacts you don’t want to view your status are few, you can exclude them; if they are few, you can choose which contacts to reveal it to. You cannot, however, set this for every Status.
Instagram stories and status both function similarly. They are added to your current Status, and you can see who has viewed it.
It would be inappropriate to compare it to other applications since it is still in development. So let’s hold off until it is out in public beta.
