Since it has been in use for some time, USB technology has gradually improved the usability of smartphones. The USB OTG (On The Go) feature has advanced the level of intelligence of today’s phones. If your phone has limited capacity, the ability to access data by plugging in a USB flash drive is not just cool, but also practical. Furthermore, faster access to files via OTG has been made possible by technological advancements like the USB Type C protocol. However, many Android users struggle with specific USB OTG difficulties. In any case, below is a list of the different USB OTG issues and solutions:

The USB OTG flash drive isn t connecting to the phone!

This is dependent on two main factors, the first of which is that you forgot to read your phone’s specification sheet. In that case, you should read it again to see if your phone is compatible with USB OTG.

The second cause is that consumers have checked for compatibility without researching the specifics of how USB OTG functions. These explanations are detailed below:

    1. Is your USB OTG drive as old as Charles Babbage s machine?

We frequently choose to replace our outdated smartphones with the most recent models rather than paying attention to its ageing accessories. Older flash drives were created with nostalgia for vintage electronics. Older USB device generations are slower and, in comparison, more resource-hungry. Additionally, they require a sizable quantity of voltage and power to facilitate data transfer.

Modern smartphones, on the other hand, are technically sophisticated and built to operate at reduced power for maximum performance. Because of this, the ports on smartphones only supply slave devices with a limited amount of power. Both new and old devices can use USB OTG devices because of their design. They can adapt to various power input levels from the host devices’ USB ports.

    2. Software Compatibility Issues

Since the invention of computers, we have been afflicted by the bothersome problem of file format compatibility, which has added stress to our daily lives. Although the software on your phone may be able to recognise the linked device, the hardware may not.

    What s the solution?

Well, you can’t entirely get rid of them. However, there are several temporary fixes for USB OTG difficulties that can be used.

    • For the first issue

Upgrade to newer thumb drives whenever possible, especially those from reputable brands like SanDisk.

    • For the second issue

Though more expensive, reputable manufacturers’ USB OTG drives are likely to function far more well with your device. They support quicker data transfer rates and are made for smartphones to operate on little power. They won’t have an impact on the battery life or chipset performance of your phone, preserving the hardware and software’s harmonious interaction.

If the problem is software incompatibility, your device may support USB OTG. You should switch to a better file management tool with intelligent algorithms that can deal with the file formats of your portable devices, in my opinion. It is capable of detecting both new and used thumb drives. On the Play Store, there are numerous competent file managers, each with their own benefits.

For instance, the native file manager on my new Android phone was unable to recognise a very old flash drive that I plugged in. Only after installing a different file manager, such as ES File Explorer, which is capable of handling complex levels of system file operations, was I able to access the files.

However, we advise you to upgrade yearly to the newest technologies. Although it could be expensive for you, latest technology and accessories always offer a better experience.
