How to Recall WhatsApp Messages (Guide)

WhatsApp, the most popular messaging app, has made another advancement in your conversational experience. To make it simpler for you to stop the recipient from receiving your misdirected messages, it has added a message recall option called Delete for Everyone. The chat window’s messages can now be deleted for both the sender and the recipient, as well as for yourself. Let’s look at how you can delete texts you didn’t plan to send to someone to save yourself.

Use Delete for Everyone Feature in WhatsApp

On my OnePlus 5 running Oxygen OS (Android 7.1) and Nexus 5X running Android Oreo 8.1, I tested the recall functionality in WhatsApp v. 2.17.400 Beta.

Assume you accidentally send a text message to someone on WhatsApp when you meant for it to be for someone else. Not to worry. The actions you must take in order to delete a message from an individual or group chat for everyone involved are as follows:

    1. Open the chat window and long-press the messages that were sent incorrectly to choose them. The chat window’s top now has a recognisable collection of buttons. To retract your sent messages, tap the delete button to bring up its pop-up window and choose the “Delete for Everyone” option.

    2. The recipient will see a This message was erased message in lieu of the text that was previously in the WhatsApp message bubble. Additionally, a This messagetag was removed from your screen.

    3. In the same pop-up box, select the Delete for Me button to remove messages that are only for you.

You can now avoid the embarrassment of sending messages to someone they weren’t intended for by having the option to delete sent messages for everyone.

Things To Know About the Recall Feature in WhatApp

Even though you may already be aware of how the Delete for Everyone tool operates, there are still a few things to bear in mind before sending or recalling any messages:

    1. You are not completely free to erase messages for everyone at any time on WhatsApp. Only 7 minutes remain after the message is sent for you to take action and select the Delete for Everyone option. Once the specified time period has passed, you will no longer be able to retrieve sent messages.

The recipient must be using the most recent version of WhatsApp, which supports the said feature, for Delete for Everyone to function.

    3. The message recall tool is reportedly compatible with pictures, GIFs, voice notes, contact cards, locations, documents, status updates, and more in addition to text messages. Additionally, the messages function in both group and one-on-one chats. Recalling quoted messages is not presently supported.

    4. Message notifications will likewise vanish after using the Delete for Everyone action. Even in the alerts, you don’t have to worry about the recipients reading your communications. The same This message was removed tag will be used to replace them.

    5. Messages sent in broadcast lists are not eligible for the message recall feature.

    6. Users of iOS, Android, and Windows are starting to receive the message recalling feature. You must be careful not to send messages to Symbian and BlackBerry phones by accident if you want your recall requests for messages sent to such devices to work.

The recalling capability has been available on Telegram, the greatest rival of WhatsApp, for some time now, though its execution is slightly different. On Telegram, all the selected messages just disappear from the chat when you delete messages that have been sent to the receiver. WhatsApp operates differently, as you could have read above.

Since Telegram’s implementation does not leave a record of sent messages in the chat window for either the sender or the recipient, I personally do not like it very much. I think it’s vital to replace the sent message tag with a deleted message tag because it at least lets the receiver know that they received some mails. Telegram does not support this, which may be a result of its strong emphasis on user privacy.

    Recall WhatsApp Messages With Ease

For months, we had been waiting for the message recall feature to be released, and it appears WhatsApp has now done so. It will be simple to fix your error and prevent the wrong person from reading the message’s contents. The recall feature is being introduced gradually and is only accessible to some users. Within a few days, all WhatsApp users should have access to the Delete for Everyone feature. Tell us in the comments area below whether you’ve already received the Delete for Everyone feature.
