There are several features in the excellent chat programme WhatsApp, including capability for both audio and video calls. Because it is practical and just works, we use it every single day. However, call recording is one function that has been lacking for a time. Call recordings undoubtedly raise serious privacy and security concerns, yet there are instances when we absolutely must have them. There are a few workarounds if you wish to record WhatsApp calls, but they are not foolproof because it also depends on the smartphone you are using. Given that, this is your best option at the moment. So, in 2020, here’s how you record WhatsApp calls on an iPhone or an Android device.

Note:Before surreptitiously recording calls, make sure you are not violating anyone’s privacy or the law. Prior to recording, you should obtain the callee’s informed consent.

Recording WhatsApp Calls on Android and iPhone (2020)

We have established separate sections because the WhatsApp call recording method differs between Android and iOS smartphones. We have mentioned two approaches for Android. While the second uses the traditional call recorder method, the first makes use of a screen recording app. You can select the approach that suits you the best. Below, I’ve included fast links. To switch between the ways, simply click on them.

    • Record WhatsApp Calls on Android (Old Method)
    • Record WhatsApp Calls on iPhone

Record WhatsApp Calls on Android (New Method)

We previously published a thorough tutorial on how to record WhatsApp calls on Android smartphones. To record WhatsApp calls, we were utilising a third-party application. However, the app had some VoIP difficulties and was incompatible with a lot of Android devices. Because of this, we have developed a straightforward method that enables you to record WhatsApp calls on Android without using a hack.

A screen recorder will be used to record the audio conversation during WhatsApp calls. It features a no-frills configuration and works remarkably effectively. On the OnePlus 7T running Android 10 and the Mi A1 running Android Oreo, we have successfully tested this way. Therefore, we are confident that it will function on all current Android versions. Let’s go on to the steps with that in mind.

    1. If your Android device has a built-in screen recorder, you can use it. If the native screen recorder for your smartphone is missing, you can download the Screen Recorder No Ads app (Free).

    2. Check to see that audio recording is enabled on the screen recorder’s Settings page. Select internal audio as the audio source if you are using Android 10. You won’t need to activate loudspeaker mode to record WhatsApp calls on Android.

    3. If you don’t have Android 10 installed, select the microphone as the audio source. Remember that in order to record calls on WhatsApp, the speaker mode must be enabled.

    4. After finishing that, start screen recording and make a WhatsApp call. Now, if you’re using an older version of Android, turn on the speaker. The audio dialogue from both sides will begin to be recorded on the screen recorder. Stop the recording once you are finished with the call, and there you have it. Easy as pie!

Note: If you are running Android 10 and internal audio is not recording your calls then switch the audio source to microphone. This way, you will have to use the speaker mode which is sure not the best solution, but you will be able to record the call.

Record WhatsApp Calls on Android (Old Method)

Not all Android devices support WhatsApp call recording.

VoIP call recording is enabled on some devices but not on others. Simply follow the instructions to find out whether your phone is supported or not. Also take aware that Android Pie-powered devices may not be able to record owing to limitations with the OS.

    1. Download and launch the Cube Call Recorder app (free with in-app purchases).

Once you have granted the essential permissions, you are ready to start.

    Record WhatsApp Calls on iPhone

    2. Next, call someone on WhatsApp. A widget showing that the call is being recorded should display on your screen. Manually tap on the microphone icon in the Cube Recorder app if the widget doesn’t appear. Following that, it will begin recording your call.

    3. The recordings occasionally lack audio from the other side. Tap on the hamburger menu and select Recording to resolve this problem. Set the microphone as the audio source for VoIP recordings. Keep in mind that it will also activate the loudspeaker. You can use this software to record phone calls in addition to WhatsApp calls. Without making any adjustments to the default settings during our testing, WhatsApp call recording performed successfully on the Mi A1 and Redmi Note 6 Pro.

There is no simple way to record calls on iPhone, whether they are WhatsApp calls or cellular calls, as iOS is quite stringent about privacy. However, there is a hack that works, but it requires a lot of effort. You will need a Mac, an iPhone, and a second smartphone with a WhatsApp account for the laborious process. Android or an iPhone can be used as the secondary device. Your primary device will continue to be connected to your Mac for recording, so we need a backup.

    1. Connect your iPhone to your Mac and grant the required access. Now launch QuickTime and select File from the menu. Pick New Audio Recording from this menu, choose your iPhone as the source, then press the record button.

    2. Call your secondary WhatsApp device from your iPhone using WhatsApp. Once connected, add the person you wish to talk to using WhatsApp’s group calling option.

    3. Use the second device to carry on the chat now. Stop the Quicktime recording after the talk is over and save it to your Mac.

Record Your WhatsApp Calls on Android and iPhone

Keep the iPhone connected to the Mac at all times while speaking. Additionally, the group call should be activated on all three WhatsApp accounts. Any device that is disconnected will stop recording.
