One of Google’s digital wellbeing tools, bedtime mode, encourages you to put your phone away and get some rest. While a number of OEMs have made their own bedtime mode implementations, such as Zen Mode 2.0, we’ll be looking at how you can use Google’s bedtime mode to (try to) stay to a routine without interfering with your sleep cycle.
Use Bedtime Mode on Android
If you use Google’s clock app, you can make use of other bedtime features including sleep sounds. We began by going over how to activate bedtime mode, then we covered its features and what you get when bedtime mode is used in conjunction with the Google Clock app. So with that said, let’s begin.
Steps to Enable Bedtime Mode
1. Select Digital Wellbeing and parental controls in the Settings app.
Now, under the section titled “Ways to disconnect,” you can see your screen time, the opportunity to set website timers, focus mode, and bedtime mode. Select bedtime mode here.
2. The feature can be set up to activate according to your schedule. Setting the start and end hours and selecting the days on which to do this programme are all that are required. Ideally, you should stick to the same schedule for the entire week, but if you have other commitments, you can skip weekends.
What does Bedtime mode do?
3. You can decide to turn on the feature when your smartphone is charging at night. In this manner, you can use your phone while it’s charging without endangering your eyes.
Combine Bedtime mode with Google Clock
You can select to enable Do Not Disturb (DND) mode, enable greyscale, which turns the screen to black and white, and turn the mode off when the subsequent alarm sounds under the customisation settings. Another planned feature will allow you to switch off the always-on display (AOD) before going to sleep, however it is currently only available in the Digital Wellbeing beta. If your phone supports AOD, you can sign up for the Digital Wellbeing Beta to start using the function right away.
You can do more in bedtime mode if Google Clock is your go-to Android clock app. Viewing your previous nighttime activities, setting a wake-up alarm with a dawn effect that gradually brightens the screen before to the alarm, and listening to sleep sounds may all be done here.
Sleep sounds won’t begin playing automatically, in contrast to other bedtime functions. Instead, you’ll need to manually play it using the Clock app or by tapping the notice for the bedtime reminder. You can decide whether to get bedtime reminder notifications 15, 30, or 1 hour prior to going to sleep. To enable it, touch on the start time and select the most convenient reminder time for you.
You can pick one of Google’s preset sleep sounds or one of your favourite songs from Spotify or YouTube Music. In this instance, I’ve selected the most recent Lego-created white noise playlist. After a stressful day, you can use the search button to set music that will help you rest and unwind.
Try Bedtime Mode for Better Sleep
A specific sleep sound control page will be presented to you once you play a sleep sound. You may instantly pause the sleep sound here or set a timer to turn it off after a certain amount of time. 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 40 minutes, 50 minutes, and an hour are the possible times. A different sound can also be selected from this page.
