Ever wonder why the world’s internet goliaths are vying to connect millions of Indians who are now not connected? That’s because China, which maintains a stringent firewall, trails India as the second-largest Internet market in the world. So it only seems sense that newly connected Indians are creating a boom in the use of globally popular apps and services, with WhatsApp serving as the best example.

I don’t have many complaints about how everyone uses WhatsApp, but I do have a significant complaint. Those awful WhatsApp “Good Morning” messages! Let’s face it, the majority of us have a family WhatsApp group where we post good morning and good night messages. We can’t hold the family members solely responsible. Since the majority of them are online novices, what better way to start the day by spreading positivity than with a cute picture?

This extends beyond only good morning and good night greetings. More than 20 billion New Year’s messages were sent in India, according to WhatsApp. Naturally, as you might anticipate, a sizable portion of those were pictures. However, it might grow tiresome over time, especially if your phone keeps buzzing that it’s running out of storage space!

One in three smartphone users in India experience this everyday space shortage, according to Google’s research. This incredible number illustrates the prevalence of cellphones with little internal capacity but high Whatsapp usage rates. And what do you think is using up that storage? the countless sweet good morning and welcoming messages.

According to a thorough article by The Wall Street Journal, these greeting messages are responsible for a 10-fold rise in Google searches. In fact, Pinterest created a new category specifically for the exhibition of quotes-based photographs, and it appears that Indian users who are trying to download these images are the main source of traffic for this category.

So, What s the Solution for This?

Google’s response was to deploy AI to assist in the elimination of greeting messages because WhatsApp is here to stay. Files Go is a brand-new app. It is an app that enables Android users to quickly locate files and clear up space. A useful feature of the programme flags files for potential deletion.

Josh Woodward, a Google product manager who worked on Files Go, claimed that the company trained the app to sift out good-morning greetings using both its enormous image collection and artificial intelligence techniques. Finding them required searching for a specific size and kind of image file.

We were trying to deconstruct what is the DNA of a good morning message for months. It s been a lot of hard work to get it right. Josh Woodward

If you’ve been living under a rock, Google introduced the Files Go app in New Delhi last year. It has since received over 10 million downloads, with the majority of users appearing to be Indians.

According to Google’s statistics, the software has successfully deleted more than 1 GB of data per user on average. There are many alternative cleaning apps available on the Play Store and the App Store, but Google’s Files Go is quite simple and does the job without compromising on other factors like security.

    Move Your Family to Stories

Make your family members use the storytelling features as an additional option. Stories is a well-liked format that several platforms are now utilising. Since Snapchat first offered it, numerous other apps, like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, etc., have adopted it.

These good morning messages might help users say good morning to all of their contacts at once using Stories. Even if it might take some time for the people to utilise it, it will greatly simplify their duty and save a tonne of storage for the rest of us. We all stand to benefit, right?

Despite the fact that not everyone might find this bothersome. After all, everyone of us has a unique smartphone, or perhaps you don’t belong to a family. But even so, it gives us a chance to understand precisely what motivated Google’s efforts in this area, particularly the introduction of Files Go. What at first glance appeared to be a harmless software to assist remove similar scammy apps from the Play Store was actually a clever answer to an issue that many people in India confront but that few have been able to solve.

In light of this, we would want to hear from you. What additional recommendations do you have to deal with these everyday forwards? Post a comment below and let us know. Good night.
