What is JioGigaFiber? Everything You Need to Know

Reliance Jio is seeking to disrupt the internet business in the same way that it did the mobile carriers market in India by introducing crazily inexpensive rates with unlimited mobile data. The JioGigaFiber, a new product from Reliance, promises to give high internet speeds at reasonable costs. Even so, given that the service is still in the testing stage, not much is known about it. We intend to change that in this post by taking a closer look at JioGigaFiber to see what it can provide for us. So, if you’re curious about JioGigaFiber, here’s all the information you need to know.

Everything You Need to Know About JioGigaFiber

In this post, we’ll start by reviewing the fundamentals of JioGigaFiber before looking at its release date, pricing, and any other pertinent details that have been made public.

    What is Fiber Internet Connection?

Let’s first discuss fibre internet connections and how they differ from the standard cable and DSL connections we now use before discussing JioGigaFiber. Copper wires are typically used in cable and DSL connections to transport electrical data. These connections only have a small capacity because they were initially designed to transmit our voice solely. Additionally, attenuation causes a decrease in transfer speed with increasing distance.

These issues are resolved by fibre connections, which use light instead of electrical signals. A fibre connection makes use of fiber-optic wires, which are primarily constructed of glass or plastic and transmit light in binary. Fiber-optic connections offer increased capacity and speed, which can reach 10Gbps, because they transmit data using modulated light rather than electricity.

Additionally, fiber-optic lines have a greater signal-to-attenuation ratio than copper connections. The signal strength begins to deteriorate when utilising copper lines at a distance of roughly 100 metres. Over a distance of 40 kilometres with fiber-optics, the same amount of signal loss occurs. As you can see, fiber-optics are thought to represent the future of broadband access because they provide increased capacity and reach.

    What is JioGigaFiber?

In essence, JioGigaFiber is a broadband connection service that uses fiber-optic connections to deliver fast internet to your home and workplace. For the majority of consumers, JioGigaFiber will provide limitless speeds for all of their gaming, media streaming, and online browsing requirements. If executed properly, you will be able to stream 4K content instantly and download 1 GB files in a matter of seconds. The future JioGigaFiber is promising us is that one.

What is Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Technology Used in JioGigaFiber?

The majority of internet service providers in India connect to residences via cable or DSL. While the majority of connections between continents use fibre optics, end-users like you and I obtain internet service using copper wires. The financial savings for internet service providers come at the expense of a reduced capacity and slower speed.

The company’s euphemistic way of expressing that it will offer a fiber-optics connection directly to your home is Jio’s Fiber to the Home (FTTH) technology.

What Are the Benefits of Using JioGigaFiber?

You will therefore have direct access to a fiber-optic connection, which offers much faster speeds and capacity than a cable connection.

High-speed internet with shorter ping times and faster download and upload rates is obviously advantageous. Although a fiber-optic connection has a theoretical maximum speed of 10 Gbps, in reality, the fastest speed that will often get to your home is 5 Gbps. Additionally, the 5 Gbps version would be very expensive; hence, Jio is likely to introduce various pricing levels for different speeds. Even after accounting for everything, you should anticipate baseline download rates of at least 100 Mbps, which should be affordable for all users.

    JioGigaFiber Pricing

The fiber-optic connections themselves are an advantage of adopting JioGigaFiber in addition to faster speeds and greater capacity. Due to thecables’ increased durability, you will have little to no downtime while using them. Additionally, you won’t need to replace the cables if any new fiber-optic technology becomes available in the future because the upgrade will be made to the electrical light pulses conveying the information rather than the cables themselves. It implies that you will be able to increase your speeds in the future without having to change your hardware configuration.

At least for the early customers, JioGigaFiber won’t be inexpensive by any means. The GigaHub Home Gateway, which is the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) device Jio will install at your home, requires a one-time payment of Rs. 4,500 that is refundable. Thankfully, the company doesn’t now charge for installation services, but you may anticipate that it will in the future.

    How to Get JioGigaFiber Connection?

Regarding data price, Jio now offers a 90-day prepaid plan with 100 Mbps speed and a 100 GB monthly data cap.

The speed will decrease to 1 Mbps when your data has been used up. Additionally, users will be able to purchase extra data in 40 GB prepaid blocks. I was unable to see any pricing details for the 90-day plan or the top-up. Additionally, keep in mind that this is only a preview plan and that whenever the service is made available to the general public, you will see various tiers and price structures so you may select the one that best matches your needs.

JioGigaFiber is now invite-only. You must visit JioGigaFiber’s website and create an account there using your full name, mobile number, and email address. JioGigaFiber will inform you if the service is offered in your area or not after you have input the necessary information and verified it using OTP. You can ask for an invite and wait for a response if the fibre connection is available where you live. You will need to wait till the service is available in your area if not.

Although we don’t yet have a specific date, the service is scheduled to be live on a commercial basis in the next weeks.
