Recently, WhatsApp released a brand-new iOS beta update with some substantial improvements to voice and video calling. To make finding call options for WhatsApp calls easier for consumers, the messaging giant has launched a new UI. Additionally, a new feature has been implemented that enables users to join group calls even after they have begun.
The new capabilities are available in the most recent WhatsApp beta for iOS, as first noted by WABetaInfo (v2.21.140.11). Therefore, if you are using this release of WhatsApp on your iOS device, you should get the new joinable group calls feature and the updated WhatsApp call UI.
New WhatsApp Call UI
WhatsApp has updated the calling screen’s interface, starting with the new call UI. Therefore, users will now experience a revamped WhatsApp call screen that resembles iOS 14’s current FaceTime UI.
The new user interface places all the call choices, including the speaker, mute mic, and other buttons, under a pull-up expandable tab at the bottom of the screen. Users can swipe it up to reveal the list of participants and enlarge the platter.
Additionally, each participant’s caller ID will display a Ring button next to it, which will ring them if they don’t answer the call the first time or when they hang up.
Joinable Group Call Options
The ability to join group calls even after they have already begun is another useful feature that WhatsApp implemented in the most recent iOS beta. Therefore, it wouldn’t be a problem if you missed the call the first time if any user is a member of a group and someone from the group initiates a voice or video call. Photo Credit: WABetaInfo
With this update, WhatsApp will display a new Tap to join banner in the Calls tab if a group call is active when a user logs in. Users don’t need to ask other participants or members to add them to the call in order to join an ongoing group voice or video call; they may simply tap the banner to do so.
Additionally, users can go to the group chat window from whence the conversation originated and touch the new Join call option if they miss the banner in the Calls tab.
Availability
The joinable group calls functionality and the new call UI are now only accessible in WhatsApp’s iOS beta version. However, according to WABetaInfo, the business will soon make these functionalities available to Android beta customers. However, it is unknown when the dominant messaging service will introduce the adjustments to the general public.
