A new beta version of WhatsApp featuring a new High Priority notifications feature has been made available on the Play Store.
The new function is included in the most current beta release (v2.18.117), according to a recent article from WABetaInfo on the subject, although it is only available to users of Android 5.0 and higher.

The new High Priority notifications function, which pins incoming notifications to the top of the notifications centre, is similar to the pin chat tool, according to the source. In the Notifications settings of the app, the new functionality can be activated for both private and group chats.
Once activated, the new functionality enables the app to display chronologically ordered previews of high priority notifications at the top of the notifications area.
