Meta just launched avatars on Instagram after first launching them on Facebook to compete with Apple’s Memoji and Snapchat’s Bitmoji. According to the most recent WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp may soon have this functionality. Here are the pertinent details.
WhatsApp Avatars May Be Introduced Soon
According to a new WABetaInforeport, WhatsApp may be experimenting with adding avatars to video conversations. This was noticed in the Android beta version of WhatsApp. During a video call, the feature will enable users to add their Avatars.
When you select the Switch to Avatar option, your Avatars will appear during the call. There is a screenshot of the functionality in the report. Here is a picture showing how it appears.
The feature isn’t operational, though, as it is still being developed. Avatars on WhatsApp will serve other purposes as well, though. It is also disclosed that, similar to Instagram and Facebook, consumers will soon be able to send Avatars as stickers to individual and group WhatsApp chats.
Additionally, the app will gain an Avatar Editor so users can quickly set up and personalise their avatars, just like on Instagram and Facebook. There is a good likelihood that syncing Facebook and Instagram avatars will also be an option. Both Android and iOS users are reportedly able to use this functionality.
Although it seems like a fun WhatsApp feature, we are unsure of its actual release date. We anticipate a beta release first, then a final general release. When this occurs, we’ll be sure to let you know and update you.
