Xposed Framework on Android: Things You Need to Know

If someone tells you that Android’s ability to be customised sets it apart from other smartphones, they are 100% correct. Android users regularly boast about the level of flexibility offered by the operating system. Custom widgets, live wallpapers, and notification panel customization are all examples of modifying the lock screen. On Android, one can accomplish a lot of things that are restricted in other mobile operating systems like iOS and Windows 8.

But that’s only the beginning. When you root your smartphone, you have a lot more room for experimentation and can do things with it that weren’t feasible when Android was at the stock level. The types of mods that can be installed on an Android device that has been root access elevate the mobile user experience to an entirely new level. Some users would flash modified ROMs on their phones to gain access to exclusive features if rooting their phones wasn’t sufficient for them. However, installing or flashing custom ROMs entails too many hazards for a typical end user because it could result in your phone becoming bricked or trapped in a boot loop.

The Xposed Framework was created as a result of developers coming up with an alternative solution because installing ROMs, especially more than one every week, was quite a task. The whole point of the Xposed framework is to provide you access to all the features and personalization options that come with installing a custom ROM without actually doing so. Therefore, allow me to fill you in on everything you might need to know before downloading and installing Xposed Framework on your phone.

What Xposed Framework is and How it Works

On an Android device that has been root access, you can install something called the Xposed Framework. The structure resembles a portal. It doesn’t accomplish much on its own, but it provides you with a bridge so you can install various mods and gain amazing functionality for your Android. Without modifying any APKs, Xposed is a framework for modules that can alter how the system and apps behave.

The framework may be installed on practically any rooted phone because it never depends on any APKs on the device. Reversing the changes is also as simple as removing an app because the independent code used to modify the phone was installed on the Xposed Framework. For the same system parameters, many modules can operate and independently alter them. Therefore, using the Xposed Framework makes it simple to manipulate your hardware keyboard while listening to music or reading an eBook.

Any phone must have root access for Xposed Framework to install as a System app. Now, without needing to flash third-party APKs and ROMs, every module you install on this framework will extend itself to the system files and make the required adjustments.

    Installing Xposed Framework

Android rooted phones running versions of Jelly Bean to Android 4.4 KitKat can have the XposedModule installed. While Xposed is enabled in Android Lollipop as well, it currently only functions on ARM CPUs.

Do a Nandroid backup before you start the installation, I would advise. It’s wise to be on the safe side just in case. Following completion of this step, sideload the Xposed Framework APK from the Xposed Repo and install it on your Android. Ensure that the Android security settings have the untrusted source checkbox selected.

Launch the Xposed app and go to Framework after installing the APK. When you select Install/Update from this menu, the Xposed Installer will add the necessary files to the system files. The installation will request root permission from you. You would then be prompted to restart the device. Continue, then restart your phone. The phone may take some time to boot up since system-level updates will be applied. You can use the phone after it restarts. Now let’s look at module installation.

    Installing and working with Module

Open the Download menu in the Xposed Installer as soon as the Xposed Module is operational. You may look up and download any Xposed Framework-compatible modules here. These modules will operate according to a framework and offer you capabilities and customizability on an entirely new level. When you swipe to the download section, the download button will be displayed. These modules can also be sideloaded from other sources and downloaded.

By altering the Xposed Module global settings, you can select to include the beta and experimental modules in the list instead of just the stable ones by default. Once the modules are installed, you may use the Xposed Installer’s Module section to activate and access them. However, before you can use a module, you must reboot after each installation and activation.

The Best Modules to Get Started

Although I’m sure you’re eager to install the Xposed framework on your phone, are you unsure which module you should test out first? Don’t worry, we’ve taken care of it for you as well. See our selection of the top 10 Xposed Modules you need to install right away. That’s not it however; keep checking back for more fantastic discussions on Xposed where we’ll talk about new modules to modify your phone.
